Camp Bestival 2016 – The line up

We are so excited to be going to Camp Bestival this Summer, not only because it will be our first festival as a family of five but also because as official a Camp Bestival blogger I will be bringing you all the latest festival news over the coming months via Facebook and Twitter.

I booked to go to Camp Bestival when I was pregnant with thing three (I didn’t know that I was pregnant), the festival was only 8 weeks after he was born and I could barely see with exhaustion, so we didn’t make it, much to my disappointment.  This year we are feeling brave (we still have a little runner in the family) and are going to go for it.

I know that some families take their kids to festivals from birth and are really chilled about it all but hands up I’m not that chilled when I take my three out (anywhere), and a large festival with millions of opportunities to get lost makes me a little apprehensive.  We have friends who have been to Camp Bestival for years, they rave about it, this sounds like a whole lot of fun.

The festival theme this year is space.  The boys love space and we are going to have loads of fun creating fancy dress outfits to wear (we already have two space helmets in the fancy dress box).  I have been looking on the website to see what’s going on, so that we can have a little plan when we get there (that will probably go out of the window but hey ho).  There are so many different parts to Camp Bestival, and they are adding more all the time.

Music is just one part of this amazing festival. Rob Da Bank (Camp Bestival founder) will be one of the many DJs over the weekend, including the legend that is Sasha, Trevor Nelson, David Rodigan, kids disco Big Fish Little Fish and lots more. Live acts include Fatboy Slim, Tears for Fears, Royal Albert Hall presents “space symphony”, Bananarama (they were playing on the radio the other day and my six year old is obsessed now) Katy B and Jess Glynne.

Kids can get involved in anything from Brit School workshops to bubble making, science tents to soft play, pimp my trolley competitions to tudor dress ups.  I have never seen such a wide variety of activities anywhere.  I imagine that the boys will be literally blown away by it all, there is zero risk of them getting bored.

There’s a petting zoo, Lego space academy, Okido Magazine (their favourite Messy Monster) are coming down to put on space related events, there are moustache competitions, cardboard record competitions, the National Space Centre will be there, the list just goes on.

I like the idea of sitting round the camp fire cooking three meals a day with the boys but the reality is containing them from poking sticks into the camping stove whilst experimenting with fire and a whole lot of stress.

There is no risk of going hungry at Camp Bestival and with the organisers asking all of the food suppliers to consider their STEPS (Sustainability, Traceability, the Environment and Provenance), the quality of food looks incredible. There are pre bookable supper and breakfast clubs – this sounds like luxury at a festival and something that I am considering booking up before we go.

My only advice to you is to go onto the Camp Bestival website and take a look for yourselves.  There are lots of free things on the site (whether you are going to the festival or not) such as space pancake recipes and colouring competitions.

I will keep you posted on our Camp Bestival plans and would love any tips of what we should take as a family of five.
